I have an odd sense of humor, which tends to dance on the edge of the dark side at times, so when asked about death, my death in particular, I joked; “I just don’t want to be food.” I don’t want to be shark food, bear food, alligator food, snake food, alien food, and I want to make sure I have many well lived years between now and when I become worm food.
When I made the choice to commit to personal training this joke answer came to mind. How exactly do I prevent myself from becoming food, especially now that I’m in my 50’s? By becoming stronger, faster, more agile, and better my diet so that those blood-thirsty worms have a hell-ova-long wait for me to join them underground. But as I gave “don’t be food” more thought the words took on a new meaning First, don’t be the food we consume if that food doesn’t help the body repair, grow and become stronger. Then the word consume became my focus.
As you’ve probably read in my bio, I’ve lived a rollercoaster of a life and it’s easy for thoughts and past regrets to consume the present. That was it! We all have these thoughts holding us back, making us think; “What’s the use? Why should I bother? I’ll just fail like I did before.” We can’t let negative thoughts and mistakes from the past consume us. We must focus on who we wish to become, and if getting in better shape and creating healthy habits is the goal, then I want to help people achieve that goal.
With that, Don’t Be Food was born. A silly name for a fitness company? Sure. But it’s one with more thought and meaning behind it than most. And giving more thought to my clients and their needs is what I’m all about when I coach. My 12-month program is designed specifically to reduce fat, increase mobility and build strength. You will be guided through five levels of targeted workouts: Physical Preparedness, Stability, Mobility, Fat Loss and Strength.
